Attorney General Charlie Crist Press Release
Jacksonville Man Arrested for Transmitting Child Pornography to Wisconsin
TALLAHASSEE - Attorney General Charlie Crist today announced the arrest of a Jacksonville man on multiple charges of promoting the sexual performance of a child. John David Chismar was arrested by investigators with Crist’s Child Predator CyberCrime Unit after he admitted transmitting child pornography to a contact in Wisconsin.
An FBI investigation into child pornography in Wisconsin revealed that Chismar, 44, had sent images of child pornography to the subject of the Wisconsin investigation. Crist’s CyberCrime Unit received the information about Chismar and went to his Jacksonville residence last night, where they interviewed him and seized his computer, which he had tried to conceal from the authorities. Chismar was arrested by officers with the CyberCrime Unit, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.
"We will not stand by and allow our children to be victimized by the actions of degenerates," said Crist. "Nothing less than our strongest efforts will be used to fight this terrible crime."
The pornographic images sent by Chismar to Wisconsin were pictures of young boys and were sexually graphic in nature. The seized computer will undergo further forensic analysis to locate additional pornographic images or movies of children.
Chismar is currently being held at the Duval County Jail. He is charged with two counts of promoting the sexual performance of a child, a second-degree felony. If convicted on both charges, he faces up to 30 years in prison and must register with the state as a sexual offender.
The CyberCrime Unit's mission is to protect children from computer-facilitated sexual exploitation. The unit does this by working cooperatively on a statewide basis with law enforcement agencies and prosecutors to provide resources and expertise, while preventing the spread of these crimes through education and community awareness. Chismar’s arrest is the 29th made by officers with the unit since its inception in October 2005. The Child Predator CyberCrime Unit is a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) of North Florida.
