~ Arrest is second of the day for the CyberCrime Unit ~

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Attorney General Bill McCollum today announced the arrest of a Hillsborough County man on charges of possession and promotion of child pornography. Duncan J. Smith, 44, was taken into custody by law enforcement with the Attorney General’s CyberCrime Unit working jointly with the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office and with assistance from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Boynton Beach Police Department.

Investigators with the CyberCrime Unit followed up on a request for assistance from officers with the Boynton Beach Police Department after they had discovered Smith’s possession of child pornography during a routine undercover investigation online. The CyberCrime Unit was able to trace the images and videos back to Smith’s computer in Tampa. A search warrant was executed at his Tampa residence and six computers, 20 hard drives and thousands of compact discs were seized, all of which undergo additional forensic analysis to locate any additional images of child pornography. Some of the images contained children as young as two years old.

Smith was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail and will be charged with two counts of promotion of child pornography, a second-degree felony, and 20 counts of possession of child pornography, a third-degree felony which will be enhanced to a second-degree felony under the CyberCrimes Against Children Act of 2007.
