Printer FriendlyCyberCrime Unit Makes Third Child Pornography Arrest in a Week
TALLAHASSEE - Attorney General Charlie Crist today announced that a Collier County man was arrested last night on multiple charges of possession of child pornography and promoting the sexual performance of a child. Investigators discovered Raymond Alexander Godfrey’s distribution and promotion of pornographic videos of children during an undercover online investigation.
Godfrey, 28, placed pornographic videos on the internet, where they were discovered by a CyberCrime investigator who was able to trace them back to Godfrey. A search warrant was then executed at Godfrey’s Naples residence and his computer was seized, along with numerous images of child pornography. He was arrested by officers with Crist’s Child Predator CyberCrime Unit and the Collier County Sheriff's Office.
"Our families and our children are made safer every time a purveyor of child pornography is stopped," said Crist. “Nothing is more important than protecting our children from those who would steal their innocence and victimize them in such a horrific manner.”
Godfrey admitted that he knowingly possessed the pornography found on his computer and would view the child pornography, then delete it to avoid detection. Several of the images appeared to be of children as young as three or four years old, being sexually assaulted by adults. The computer removed from the residence will undergo further forensic analysis to locate possible additional pornographic images or movies of children.
Godfrey is currently being held at the Collier County Jail. He is charged with one count of promoting the sexual performance of a child, a second-degree felony, and five counts of possession of child pornography, a third-degree felony. If convicted on all charges, he faces up to 40 years in prison.
The Child Predator CyberCrime Unit's mission is to protect children from computer-facilitated sexual exploitation. The unit does this by working cooperatively on a statewide basis with law enforcement agencies and prosecutors to provide resources and expertise, while preventing the spread of these crimes through education and community awareness. Godfrey’s arrest is the 33rd made by officers with the unit since its inception in October 2005 and the third in less than a week’s time. The CyberCrime Unit is a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) of North Florida.
