Crist: Miami Man Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

TALLAHASSEE - Attorney General Charlie Crist today announced the arrest of a Miami man on multiple charges of possession of child pornography and promoting the sexual performance of a child. Investigators discovered Lenin Jose Carrillo’s distribution and promotion of pornographic videos of children during an undercover online investigation.

Carrillo, 30, placed pornographic videos on the internet, where they were discovered by an Investigator with the Child Predator CyberCrime Unit who was able to trace them back to Carrillo. A search warrant was then executed at Carrillo’s residence and his computer equipment was seized, including numerous movies of child sexual abuse. Carrillo was arrested by CyberCrime Unit officers assisted by members of the L.E.A.C.H. (Law Enforcement Against Child Harm) Task Force at the Miami-Dade Police Department.

"It is difficult to imagine the depths of depravity that lead individuals to create and distribute child pornography,” said Crist. “It’s encouraging to know that our Child Predator CyberCrime Unit and local authorities continue to track these people down.”

Law enforcement officers executing the search warrant verified that Carrillo’s computer contained the movie found online by the undercover investigator, as well as others depicting children – some of who appeared to be as young as 4 years old – being used by adults to engage in sexual activity. Carrillo admitted that he knowingly possessed the child pornography found on his computer. The computer removed from the residence will undergo further forensic analysis to locate possible additional pornographic images or movies of children.

Carrillo was arrested late Friday and is currently being held at the Miami-Dade County Jail. He is charged with one count of promoting the sexual performance of a child, a second-degree felony, and five counts of possession of child pornography, a third-degree felony. If convicted on all charges, he faces up to 40 years in prison.

The Child Predator CyberCrime Unit's mission is to protect children from computer-facilitated sexual exploitation. The unit does this by working cooperatively on a statewide basis with law enforcement agencies and prosecutors to provide resources and expertise, while preventing the spread of these crimes through education and community awareness. Carrillo’s arrest is the 32nd made by officers with the unit since its inception in October 2005. The Child Predator CyberCrime Unit and the L.E.A.C.H Task Force are both members of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) in Florida.
